Akustica Introduces High-Performance Analog MEMS Microphone for Mobile Device Market

Akustica, a provider of silicon microphone products, has expanded its portfolio of microphone products with the introduction of AKU340, a high-performance analog MEMS microphone designed specially to fulfill the needs of mobile phone manufacturers.

The AKU340 uses proven surface-micromachining MEMS technology devised by Bosch, the parent company of Akustica. The omnidirectional analog-output microphone has a form factor of 2.5x3.35x1.0 mm and delivers better low frequency recording with a reduced sensitivity of below 5 dB at 50 Hz and superior acoustic performance with a signal-to-noise ratio of 63 dB. Moreover, with a tight sensitivity of ±2 dB between microphones, the new analog MEMS microphone is suitable for microphone array applications, wherein more consistent microphones boost up noise suppression algorithm performance.

The AKU340 is ideal for GSM applications as it features a protected package for electromagnetic immunity and radio frequency. It is a wideband, superior-quality microphone developed for tablets, smartphones and other mobile devices.

Akustica’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Stefan Finkbeiner stated that the inclusion of the AKU340 to the Bosch’s portfolio of consumer MEMS sensors makes Bosch as a one-stop-shop for MEMS sensing devices for all human-machine interface features in mobile devices.

The launch of the high-performance analog MEMS microphone within three years of integration with the Bosch Group is a proof of the companies’ commitment towards product development. The integration of Bosch’s MEMS IP, process advancement and production knowledge with Akustica’s CMOS MEMS technology and microphone expertise, heightens product innovation that enables Akustica to quickly develop customized solutions for customers and the necessary features for new products.
