JEOL has developed an Electron Beam Metal AM Machine that outperforms other laser beam techniques in terms of density, power, and speed. To accomplish this, the world's most advanced electron microscope and electron beam lithography system for semiconductor manufacturing are used. Higher productivity makes cost savings and design freedom possible.
JAM-5200EBM
A Metal AM machine without helium and a long-lasting cathode lasting over 1,500 hours.
Main Features
- Realization of an eco-friendly and sustainable society
- Remote Monitoring System
- JEOL USA established an extensive service support organization
- Helium-Free and powder dispersal prevention system "e-Shield"
- Long Life Cathode
- Automatic Electron Beam Correction
The JEOL Advantage for Additive Manufacturing
- The manufacturing capacity measures about 400 mm in height and 250 mm in diameter.
- Focus on total system uptime and a long-life cathode of more than 1,500 hours. The complete cathode life and manufacturing quality are retained in the system's clean manufacturing surroundings.
- The potential to remotely track conditions and manufacturing status.
- A clean, helium-free environment and “e-shield” removes smoke events during manufacturing. JEOL’s special powder dispersal prevention system prevents the scattering phenomenon.
- Environmental-friendly manufacturing. The system is capable of building several parts in a single run.
- The focus and spot shape of the electron beam are corrected automatically according to the irradiation position. This technology was developed in-house based on the company’s market leadership in electron beam lithography systems for semiconductor manufacturing.
- Manufacturing capacity is around 250 mm (diameter) × 400 mm (height).
- Eco-friendly production processes. The system can build multiple parts in a single run.
- JEOL USA currently employs over 180 field service engineers across a vast network.

A 3D Printer Built on JEOL Expertise and Support
Being supported by JEOL's decades-long experience in the development and production of advanced electron optics technology that has been used for both industrial and research applications is what sets the JEOL JAM-5200EBM apart in this rapidly developing field.
It is well known that JEOL leads the electron microscopy equipment sales industry. It has already contributed to the 3D printing value stream, encompassing materials characterization, particle analysis, imaging, and chemical analysis.
JEOL's 50+ years of expertise in developing and manufacturing successive generations of mask writing and spot beam lithography tools with unique vacuum technology are also incorporated into the JAM-5200EBM's electron beam technology.
Long Life Cathode

“The Long-Life Cathode, which sustains more than 1,500 hours, could considerably decrease downtime for cathode replacement.” The key to this longevity lies in JEOL's proprietary vacuum technology, developed through its experience in manufacturing electron beam-related equipment.
Helium-Free and Powder Dispersal Prevention System “e-Shield”
Powder scattering can be stopped without the use of helium gas. JEOL's unique dispersal prevention system stops the powder dispersal phenomenon. The absence of helium in the atmosphere not only makes it feasible to manufacture in a clean space at a reasonable price, but “the surface of the cathode is also less susceptible to damage, allowing the electron beam to remain stable.”
As a result, the cathode's lifetime could be extended while maintaining the manufacturing quality.

The "Electron Beam Metal AM Machine" from JEOL allows users to construct more than one part during a single printing process. There is almost no need for cutting, which prevents material waste. Reusing metal powder is an additional option. As a result, JEOL strives to create an ecologically friendly and sustainable society.
