The British government is investing almost £200,000 in eight companies to conduct feasibility studies that will encourage innovative technologies that will focus on environmental health and safety (EHS) issues related to development of nano technologies.
The grants, from the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), will allow focus on joint ventures to explore programmes in applications based on EHS. The studies will also endeavor to understand these issues from the viewpoint of UK business. The endeavors will provide solutions at the initial stage in the UK, and help develop nanotechnologies in an international arena.
The companies include Intrinsiq Materials, Paraytec, Deliverics, Archimedes Polymer Technologies, AvantiCell Science, Seacoustics, Naneum and Plastic Antibodies. The TSB will also invest £166,000 for the studies, while £30,000 from EPSRC will support academic costs incurred by three of the studies.
The studies will conclude with a report, a business plan that will help locate UK/EU partners and, a physical demonstration where applicable. The companies will showcase their findings at the ‘Collaboration Nation’, a public event scheduled for the third quarter of 2011.
