Knowles has declared that it has achieved the production of its 2 Billionth SiSonic MEMS microphone and shipped it. The microphones can be seen in all the Tier 1 mobile phones and also in other consumer electronic devices such as headsets, digital still cameras and notebooks.
The first SiSonic MEMS microphone had been shipped in 2003, and from then the shipments have been sent worldwide and have garnered a huge share of the market. According to the Consumer Electronics & Mobile Devices 2010 report, Knowles stands third among the Top10 MEMS suppliers and is deemed to be the leading MEMS-based silicon microphone manufacturer in the world.
Knowles celebrated in August 2009 the production of the first billionth MEMS Microphone and it maintains its leadership status in the mobile phone market, with respect to design, innovation and product breadth in the field of acoustics. Even though it had taken six years for the company to achieve the first one billion MEMS microphones shipment to their customers, the next billion figure was achieved in just one and a half years. According to the General Manager and Vice President of Knowles, Mike Adell, the company was conscious of having developed a special product when they had first launched the SiSonic microphone and with the committed efforts of their employees and their esteemed suppliers, the business grew due to the attention given to the market requirements of the customers and their delivery of innovative and pioneering products.
The company’s persistant efforts to satisfy their customers demands led to the inauguration of a new state-of–the-art manufacturing unit for the production of SiSonic microphones in Suzhou in China in the year 2004, which currently produces over millions of units every day.
