NanoMech will introduce a lubricant additive manufactured using its innovative NanoGlide technology platform. NanoGlide has been considered as the first multi-component lubricant in the world to be manufactured from nanoparticles. This innovation called boundary lubrication prevents wear and friction at mating surfaces, which are subjected to harsh frictional forces.
This scientific innovation will lower wear and friction for vital energy sectors that use machines under high pressure conditions. Developments in the future for NanoGlide will occur in areas such as oil additives. Futuristic oil additives will prolong the life of oil by 10-30%.
The Department of Energy offered a financial assistance of $1 million and allocated funds for innovation research through stimulus funding to invent the NanoGlide. The technology will be released at the 78th National Association of Lubricating Grease Manufacturers’ (NLGI) Annual Meeting in California.
Neil Canter, a lubricant industry specialist and Contributing Editor of Tribology and Lubrication Technology Magazine stated that this innovative technology has resulted in improved performance and saving of energy. He added that solid lubricant nanoparticles can be blended with eco-friendly organic additives to deliver special properties that are not available in any other lubricant in the market.
NanoMech designs and manufactures nanoparticle-based coatings, nanoparticle additives, and coating deposition systems that are application-specific.
