This centre, which will strive to create a commercial microchip processor is the first of its kind in Philippines. The centre will carry out its programs in partnership with leading companies such as Cadence and Synopsys and involve undergraduate and graduate engineering students from universities that are currently its partners.
The micro chip processor created from the institute will be named the Rizal Microprocessor, after the name of Dr. Jose Rizal who was a prominent personality in the country. This microprocessor can be programmed for a wide range of applications, systems and devices. BIT will also train its participants in the areas of software development and system and device firmware. The institute is in the process of acquiring qualifications for its other programs. The microchip program will be inaugurated at the corporate office of BiTMICRO Networks located in Taguig. The universities which are partnering with the institute are Mindanao State University, First Asia Institute of Technology, University of Philippines, Don Bosco Technical College and Mapua Institute of Technology. In the future, BIT is looking forward to acquire sponsorship from the government.
According to Rey Bruce, CEO and Chairman of BiTMICRO, the institute is part of the company’s efforts to enhance the services and capabilities of Filipino-made products and develop the skills of the local population in the areas of micro chip design and development.
