International artists will take part in a juried exhibition titled ‘Art of the Small’ to be conducted along with the Nanotech Commercialization Conference, which will be held at the American Tobacco Campus in Durham, North Carolina from April 4 to 5, 2012.
Artistic works to be displayed in the exhibition will be based on nanotechnology, biotechnology, nanobiotechnology, genetics, DNA, and genomics. Winners will earn cash awards under different categories at the awards and VIP reception. The art exhibition will be opened to the public on April 4, 2012.
Nanotechnology is revolutionizing all industries, ranging from energy, manufacturing to medicine. Billions of money has been spent in the science of nanotechnology after the US Congress passed the 21st Century Nanotechnology R&D Act to create numerous new start-up companies and jobs, supporting almost every industry across the world and bringing new innovations to the market. The technology has also motivated a new class of art that displays the images and forms of the atomic world.
F. Mark Modzelewski, Founder of NanoBusiness Alliance and an installation artist will curate the art show. The winners will be adjudged by a panel comprising experts from the fields of science, art and science communication based on three major criteria: innovation in style or technique, creativity of image representation and depiction and representation of the theme. After the exhibition, images of the participants will be displayed in an online gallery sponsored by the Center of Innovation for Nanobiotechnology for a 36-month period.
