Uniquify, a leading high-performance semiconductor intellectual property (IP) and system-on-chip (SoC) integration and manufacturing services supplier, today announced an agreement with Nufront of Beijing, China, to provide a high-performance DDR subsystem IP solution that supports DDR4, DDR3, LPDDR3 and LPDDR2 protocols.
The target SoC and DDR IP will be implemented in GLOBALFOUNDRIES' 28SLP (nanometer) process.
Nufront develops and markets SoC solutions for the wireless broadband and mobile communications markets, including smart devices, intelligent transportation and smart home. The new SoC needed to support multiple DDR protocols, such as DDR4, DDR3, LPDDR3 and LPDDR2, and also required Uniquify to provide a customized DDR controller interface to meet Nufront's target application.
"We are pleased that Nufront selected us to be their DDR IP provider for this important project," notes Josh Lee, Uniquify's president and chief executive officer. "The engagement underscores our commitment to China's growing SoC market and our ongoing investment there. It also demonstrates the worldwide need for advanced DDR IP, including leading-edge solutions such as DDR4 and LPDDR4."
Uniquify is delivering the DDR controller and PHY in the form of a combination IP that can support multiple DDR protocols required by Nufront. The solutions include Uniquify's patented self-calibrating logic technology that dynamically adjusts the DDR interface timing during system operation. Silicon-proven in multiple 28-nanometer processes, these technologies deliver the highest possible DDR performance while maintaining a small footprint, minimizing power consumption and delivering a highly reliable and robust DDR system.
"Nufront was seeking a DDR IP partner that could meet our needs for multiple DDR protocols and also provide a customized DDR controller to meet our specific needs," says Min Luo, vice president of Nufront. "We were impressed with Uniquify's DDR innovations and track record. Even more important, Uniquify's willingness and flexibility in meeting our specific needs has been extremely helpful to our program. We look forward to a long relationship."
