Representatives of UAlbany NanoCollege visit Russia

From 9 to 12 of September the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) of the University at Albany visited Kazan. The delegation includes Dr. Edward Cupoli, Professor and Head of CNSE's Nanoeconomics Constellation; Dr. John Elter, Empire Innovation Professor of Nanoscale Engineering and Executive Director of CNSE's Center for Sustainable Ecosystem Nanotechnologies; and head of SUNY program in Russian Federation (MSU) Zinoveva Olga Andreevna.

This Centre takes a leading stand in the sphere of nanotechnologies in USA and the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering of State University of New York at Albany has the patronage of it. CNSE's Albany NanoTech Complex is a $4.2 billion, 450,000-square-foot megaplex that has attracted more than 250 corporate partners from around the world, including IBM, AMD, SEMATECH, Applied Materials, Tokyo Electron, Toshiba, ASML, Freescale and Vistec Lithography.

The visit had familiarization type and was aimed at work activation for exposure of areas of scientific cooperation in the nanotechnology sphere, acquaintance with products of Tatarstan scientists in the nanotechnology sphere, definition ways of scientific equipment efficient working available to SUNY University in RT, arrangement of conditions for students, young scientists, conduct of works in the nanotechnology sphere, organization of scientific-applied researches and visit of RT representatives at State University of New York at Albany.

In the first place representatives of SUNY visited Institute of Organic Physics and Chemistry (IOPC), Kazan Physic-technical Institute (KPTI) and met with Chairman of RT State Council Farid Mukhametshin who was sure that visit of American specialists will yield such results as joint scientific projects.

On the 11th of September the meeting with heads of institutes, representatives of RT Academy of Sciences and other officials was held in Technopark "Idea". In the meeting with representatives of SUNY took part Member of commission for economic development problems and reforms of RT State Council Galeev M.G., First deputy of chairman of RT Committee for small- and middle-scale businesses development Tazautdinov I.R., RT Academy of Sciences President Mazgarov A.M., chancellor of Kazan State University Salakhov M.H., director of Kazan Physic-technical Institute Salikhov K.M., director of Arbuzov Institute Sinyashin V.G., head of Tatarstan department Russia-Canada society, lecturer of Kazan Social and Juridical Institute Kholodnov V.G. and director for innovations of Innovative Technopark "Idea" Ibragimov O.E.

Dr. Cupoli and Dr. Elter told about their organization activities and research results. They interpret Technopark "Idea" as coordinator of cooperation arrangement between research and educational organizations. Also they want to expand mutual contacts.

As a result the Technopark and representatives of State University of New York at Albany signed memorandum of cooperation in the nanotechnologies sphere. The main tasks of memorandum are exposure of joint areas of scientific researches, development of commercialization methods of research results subject to SUNY experience and organization of exchange of scientific personnel.

Then was held joint seminar, where scientists of Kazan State University and representatives of SUNY took part. Also quests met with Minister of Education and Science of RT Nail Valeev and chancellor of Kirov Kazan State Technological University Dyakonov G.S. "We are ready to interact with Russia and halo of our college activity will significantly broaden, - John Elter considered. - In Russia basic researchs are at very high level and we would like to use this potential".
