Malvern Panalytical will demonstrate a new application for foreign particle determination on filters, and will show new systems for protein characterization and rheology measurement at the 2008 AAPS Annual Meeting & Exposition (17-20 Nov, Atlanta, USA). Foreign particulate matter determination on the Morphologi G3, the Zetasizer APS and Zetasizer µV systems for protein characterization in pharmaceutical and biotechnology applications, and the radical new Kinexus rheometer platform have all been launched since the beginning of September. This is one of the first events at which they are being exhibited.
As well as supporting the exhibition, Malvern Panalytical is participating in the conference. Dr Paul Kippax, product manager for laser diffraction systems at Malvern Panalytical, will contribute a paper on ‘Method Development and Validation for Particle Size Measurements’. His presentation will examine requirements for the development and validation of particle sizing methods, with reference the FDA’s guidance documentation, the US pharmacopoeia and the available international standards.
Morphologi G3 : Foreign particulate matter – detection, enumeration, size classification
A new capability on Malvern Panalytical’s award-winning Morphologi G3 automated particle characterization system enables the fully automated detection, enumeration and size classification of foreign particulate matter (FPM) collected on a filter. In the pharmaceutical industry this is especially important in controlling particulate contamination of materials for injection or inhalation. Analysis of FPM on filters has traditionally been the preserve of manual light microscopy. Now, the Morphologi G3 brings fully automated image analysis to accelerate characterization and remove any operator subjectivity.
Zetasizer APS: Protein characterization in microplates
The Zetasizer APS is a new dynamic light scattering (DLS) system which automates size measurements of samples in 96- or 384-well microplates. Designed primarily for protein specialists, it is fully automated, simply requiring users to insert the plate and press start. The Zetasizer APS allows quick and easy investigation of a protein’s condition at different stages of the purification process, and at later stages of formulation under a range of environmental conditions. The measurement technology used delivers results with exactly the same high precision and reproducibility you would expect from a research grade batch DLS system. www.malvern.com/zetasizerAPS
Zetasizer µV: Requires just 2 microlitres for biomolecule characterization
The new Zetasizer µV is an advanced light scattering system specifically intended for the characterization of proteins and other biomolecules. Designed and optimized for maximum sensitivity and minimum sample volume, the Zetasizer µV is a dedicated system that supports improved understanding and management of a wide range of biomolecule applications, including: optimizing sample and storage conditions; verifying the quaternary structure of protein complexes; identifying thermal characteristics; and assessing protein solubility and sample purity. www.malvern.com/zetasizerMicroV
The new Kinexus – more rheology, less effort
Kinexus is the radical new rotational rheometer platform from Malvern Panalytical. Completely redefining the rheometer, Kinexus enables users to spend less time learning how to interact with their system and more time investigating ways to characterize and enhance a material's performance. Embedding expert knowledge and adaptive intelligence within the instrument delivers application-relevant and high quality data for all users, generating information that will truly add value to a product or process. www.malvern.com/kinexus
