The Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA), the voice of the global semiconductor industry, announces it is launching an awareness campaign for Europe to encourage the EU Commission, regional governments, universities, research organizations, industry and private equity firms to collaboratively provide the investment and infrastructure support that is vital to the ability of small- to medium-sized enterprises to bring sustainable innovative semiconductor product concepts to market.
Combined with GSA’s efforts to grow the engine of innovation by establishing a thriving ecosystem for emerging semiconductor companies in Europe, GSA also announces full support for the European effort to provide policy recommendations on Key Enabling Technologies (KETs).
GSA supports the European semiconductor industry by providing a global platform for industry leaders to collaborate and exchange information. By working together, this leadership group will develop a united message to Europe’s politicians, industry, and financial stakeholders regarding establishing a favorable framework for innovation that can further Europe’s leadership position in the global economy and improve quality of life by stimulating knowledge-based job creation in the semiconductor industry.
GSA fully endorses the EU Commission’s determination to develop specific policies for encouraging the development of Key Enabling Technologies, which includes semiconductors as a focus. The central role of semiconductors and micro and nano-technology as a gateway for future product and service development means it must be at the forefront of delivering competitiveness and innovation in a knowledge-based economy and so ensure the welfare, prosperity and security of Europe’s citizens. As the global source of information for the semiconductor industry, GSA is uniquely positioned to contribute to the analysis and understanding of the critical issues that exist across the semiconductor industry.
Leading this effort on behalf of GSA is Eric Mayer, GSA’s Business Development Consultant in the EU. After starting his career in the Daimler group and working for KPMG Advisory, Eric served more than seven years in the semiconductor industry in various executive positions at Infineon Technologies AG and Amkor Technology Inc. “Europe must live up to global challenges in a vibrant and fast-moving world. The semiconductor market is a genuinely strategic industry enabling so many other leading markets such as telecommunications, consumer electronics, and automotive to name but a few – all of which significantly impact our everyday lives,” said Mayer. “I appreciate the unique opportunity to foster collaboration across national frontiers and between leading companies by bringing GSA´s wealth of international semiconductor expertise to bear in Europe.”
