Collision Testing Using PI’s VeriMove Hexapod Software

This video shows the utilization of the advanced PI VeriMove software. The PI VeriMove software is programmed to prevent collisions of moving and static parts. Limited space can cause difficulties for both positioning and motion systems. Even when a lot of care is taken during the design of a production unit or an experimental setup, it is not always possible to avoid the hazard of collision. The PI VeriMove software is designed to calculate the permitted travel ranges for hexapods in order to check if there are any impediments in the motion range.

The VeriMove software is easy to operate and can be easily integrated into the PI user software. The newly designed configurations can be stored as the basis for the geometric calculations in the hexapod controller. The safety gap to the objects can be confirmed online for each position or motion command. This results in new boundaries for the positions that the hexapod is allowed to occupy.

The target positions and all points along the trajectory where a collision may occur are checked prior to execution. If a collision is likely to occur, then the motion is halted. For additional safety, a minimum gap can be identified, which is integrated into the distance, irrespective of the direction in space.
