Red Blood Cell Manipulation by Optical Tweezers from JPK Instruments

This video shows the manipulation of red blood cell by optical tweezers from JPK Instruments. Four time-shared traps are used for capturing and manipulating a red blood cell. These four time-shared traps apply strain to the trapped red blood cell forcing it to assume a rectangular shape.

It is also possible to recapture and rearrange the cell after switching off the laser and again switching it on. In the later part of the video the red blood cell is forced to assume different kind of shapes using the traps.
