New Strategy to Decontaminate Polluted Soils Using Nanoparticles and Bioremediation

Researchers at the Basque Institute of Agricultural Research and Development Neiker-Tecnalia are working on a strategy to cure soils polluted by organic compounds containing chlorine (organochlorine compounds). The novel process involves integrating zero-iron nanoparticles in bioremediation methods. The companies Ekotek and Dinam, Gaiker-IK4 and the UPV/EHU-University of the Basque Country are also taking part in this project called as NANOBIOR.

Researchers Fabricate HyTII Graphene Film with Tunable Bandstructure

A team of researchers from various disciplines at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), Electronics Science and Technology and Materials Science and Technology Divisions, has showed hyperthermal ion implantation (HyTII) as a viable means of substitutionally doping graphene with nitrogen atoms. The outcome is a low-defect film with a tunable bandstructure agreeable to a number of device applications and platforms.
