Novel Ligand Removal Method Helps Integrate Nanocrystals into Energy-Related Devices

A research team at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) of the U.S. Department of Energy has developed a novel method for removing nanocrytals from tether-like molecules called ligands that prevent integration of nanocrystals with devices, paving the way for designing nanocrystal-based technologies for LEDs, solar fuels, smart windows, photovoltaics and energy storage.

Nanoscale Glass Fiber Measuring Method for Counting Atoms and Studying Quantum Physics

A research team led by Professor Arno Rauschenbeutel Vienna Center for Quantum Science and Technology, in partnership with the researchers at the Johannes Gutenberg University has developed an ultrasensitive method by controllably coupling single atoms to light within ultra-thin fiber glass having a thickness of 500 nm, paving the way to develop detectors that are capable of sensing ultra-trace amounts of materials.
