Use of New Tungsten-Silicon Alloy Nanowires Improve Efficacy of Single-Photon Detector

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) scientists have replaced the superconducting material used in its single-photon detector with a new tungsten-silicon alloy, which increased the efficacy of the detector as well as its sensitivity to light with longer wavelengths.

Research Team Observes Spin Quantum-Jumps with Single Trapped Proton and Anti-Proton

A team of researchers from the Helmholtz Institute Mainz (HIM) and the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) along with their colleagues from Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics, Heidelberg and GSI Helmholtz Center for Heavy Ion Research, Darmstadt, measured the magnetic properties of a single proton. For the first time, they observed spin quantum-jumps of a trapped proton.
