Beijing Electron-positron Collider II (BEPC II), one of China's biggest and most challenging scientific devices, has its modification works approved by the Acceptance Committee in Beijing.
The linear accelerator, storage ring, synchrotron radiation Mode and Beijing Electron-Positron Spectrometer III (BESII), function parameters of BEPC II have all achieved or exceeded design indexes, according to experts of the Acceptance Committee.
The facility adopts the most advanced double ring intersect colliding technology, gets over the problem of narrow storage tunnel and short colliding zone. The luminosity, a leading parameter, was therefore improved to 33 times stronger than its predecessor BEPC, making BEPC II leading in this area.
The Instittue of High-Energy Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, host of the large facility, claims to have pushed forward the Chinese research of related field during the reconstruction. It has provided four-round five-month light source to about 700 scientific projects abroad and domestic.
The electron-positron collider has been applied to a range of research topics covering material, pharmaceutical, semi-conductor and micro-electronic researches. It will open to outside users in October.
