The Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology Pvt. Ltd (SLINTEC) recently announced the launch of a highly informative website - the first Sri Lankan nano-based information portal. Developed by Pyxle, it is an interactive web portal that acts as an information hub for nanotechnology research in Sri Lanka. The website is built on the latest Web 2.0 technologies incorporating user participation, customizable interface and a state-of-the-art web design.
The purpose of the website is multipronged with key focus on creating awareness on nanotechnology amongst students, educate potential investors and clients on the research being done, enable the government to measure the performance of funding, provide a forum for scientists to share their thoughts, attract potential human resources, satisfy public curiosity and aid business sector decision makers in their planning and evaluation of nanotechnology.
The pioneer institution in nanotechnology in Sri Lanka, SLINTEC is built upon the global values of economic, environmental and social sustainability. Pyxle was selected to provide web solutions by SLINTEC on the basis of their innovative and strategic approach to the web requirement of SLINTEC, Prof Ajith De Alwis Science Leader of SLINTEC said.
"Our vision is to be the leading sustainable nanotechnology research entity in Asia, and SLINTEC is working towards transforming Sri Lanka into a strong Nanotechnology-focused nation," he continued. "Our website is a key interface in reaching this vision. We are glad to have tied up with a dynamic company like Pyxle to fulfill our web strategy."
"The significant advantage of the solution offered is that there is ample room for us to expand in the web structure and placements. SLINTEC will continue to work with Pyxle to improve the site relative to its phase of development," Girindra Tennakoon HR Manager of SLINTEC added.
Speaking at the launch of the website Presantha Jayamaha, Managing Director of Pyxle said, "Pyxle's efforts are built around serving its valued clientele with best-of-breed web technologies, enabling them to improve their marketing capability and global client network. We are very happy to have been given the opportunity to develop the web solution for SLINTEC; the only nanotechnology institution in Sri Lanka."
"Even though this website went online very recently, our records indicate a considerable amount of users gathering to this website each day. We are therefore satisfied with our effort to generate a high return on investment for SLINTEC."
According to Professor Veranja Karunaratne - Science Team Leader at SLINTEC, only 0.14% per cent of GDP is spent on research and development (R &D) in Sri Lanka. "Many other countries contribute over 1.5% per cent for R&D. Due to a number of reasons research has played a minimal role in the development of Sri Lanka. We are here to fill that gap. SLINTEC's leading edge technology and innovative research are expected to sustain the leadership positions of our dynamic clientele. Hence, we aim to provide web users with reliable, accurate and up to date information on our research offerings," Professor Karunaratne said.
The new website will work towards communicating the benefits of nano scientific findings and would be a very useful site as it provides first hand information in a convenient and easily accessible form, he added.
