BeDell to Lead Transformation of Elsevier's Science+Technology Books

BeDell to lead the ongoing transformation of S&T Books from a traditional print-based book publisher into a technology-driven, high quality content-based information provider.

Elsevier announced today that Suzanne BeDell has joined Elsevier as Managing Director, S&T Books. BeDell will provide overall vision to further Elsevier's mission to design and develop both print and electronic products that serve customers needs.

"Suzanne brings to Elsevier an extensive track record in leading digital development initiatives, and launching new products and platforms," said Youngsuk 'Y.S.' Chi, CEO, Elsevier Science and Technology. "The S&T Books group plays a key role in Elsevier's strategic growth so we are delighted to have someone of Suzanne's caliber to take on the leadership of the group."

Suzanne brings to Elsevier more than 28 years of experience in the publishing industry, starting out in books sales and marketing. Over the course of her career she has held a number of leadership positions in the STM publishing and digital information businesses with such companies as Thomson (now Thomson-Reuters), McGraw Hill, and Mosby (now Elsevier). She joins Elsevier after 9 years with ProQuest, where she most recently served as General Manager of Dialog LLC, a provider of online information services for research-intensive organizations.

"Cutting-edge information products require cutting-edge, high quality content and I'm pleased to lead a group that combines these two key elements in innovative ways," said BeDell. "Elsevier and the S&T Books group understand that the work we are doing here today will lead to scientific and technological advances in the years ahead."

Elsevier S&T Books provides seamless integration of its superior scientific and technological content through online resources such as SciVerse, ScienceDirect and BrainNavigator, the award-winning product that improves the quality of neuroscience research. The S&T Books' family of imprints includes Focal Press, Butterworth-Heinemann, Morgan Kaufmann, Syngress, CIMA Publishing, William Andrew, Newnes, Architectural Press, Academic Press and Academic Cell Press.

Suzanne assumed her position on September 1st, 2010 and is based in Elsevier's Burlington, Massachusetts office.
