Zecotek Photonics Inc. (TSX VENTURE:ZMS)(FRANKFURT:W1I), a developer of leading-edge photonics technologies for medical, industrial and scientific markets, today announced it has appointed Dr. Jalil Ali to its Board of Directors. Dr. Ali will fill the role of independent director, advising on industry trends as well as providing additional industry expertise at the Board level.

As the Head of Malaysia's Institute of Photonics and Nanotechnology, with deep connections in the regional semiconductor industry, he will add significant value in transactions with local manufactures and markets. Dr. Ali also has extensive experience leading technology innovation and he will play the role of an independent director, advising on industry trends as well as balancing our expertise at the Board level."
Dr. Jalil Ali received his PhD in plasma physics from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), in 1990. At present, he is Professor of Photonics at the Institute of Advanced Photonics Science, Nanotechnology Research Alliance and the Physics Department, UTM. From 1987-2010, he has held numerous faculty and research positions including the Dean/Director, Bureau of Innovation and Consultancy, UTM. He was instrumental in establishing and forging university-industry collaborations in Malaysia. He has authored/coauthored more than 300 technical papers published in international journals, three books and a number of book chapters. His areas of interests are in photonics, optical solutions, fiber couplers, and nano waveguides. Dr. Jalil Ali is a member of OSA, SPIE, and the Malaysian Institute of Physics.
