Recent information released by, ABI Research reveals that the MEMS market will continue to expand over the coming five years with almost five billion MEMS being sold in 2016.
The report further states that MEMS will be incorporated into multiple consumer electronics, including accelerometers, gyroscopes, magnetometers, altimeters, screens, projectors, and microphones.
The systems are at present incorporated into smartphones, netbooks, media tablets, e-Readers, games consoles and portable gaming devices, facilitating navigation, dead reckoning, stabilization of pictures, and enhanced reality. Most consumer electronic goods feature multiple MEMS in them. The report further states that though initial installation of the MEMS is expensive, it helps save energy and operational costs.
Peter Cooney, practice director, says that if OEMS incorporate MEMS displays, they could provide increased revenue growth. He also says that the predictions would hold true only in the event of t sales of MEMS continued to rise. The MEMS market is at present divided between seven key players, including STMicroelectronics, Asahi Kasei, InvenSense, Bosch, Knowles, Kionix and Freescale Semiconductor. Cooney also adds that companies such as Bosch and STMicroelectronics have forayed into diverse applications while other companies specialize in specific applications. This will ensure that their revenues will rise as market trends change.
