NanoMaterials Technology (NMT) has declared that it has made a contract with Lagos Brazil to supply both proprietary High Gravity Controlled Precipitation ("HGCP") Technology and equipment to develop, promote and supply nano-precipitated calcium carbonate (NPCC) in South America and across the world. NPCC is used as an active ingredient in several applications like adhesives, coatings, plastics, rubber and paper.
During the promotion of NPCC in Brazil and several areas of Latin America, NMT will provide technical as well as application assistance to Lagos Brazil. The capacity of the new NPCC facility is 10 thousand tons every year and will be operational by the next year.
Lagos Brazil’s Director, Galvao Silveira, expressed his pleasure in partnering with NMT and in introducing NPCC in Brazil and several nearby nations. He mentioned that the global calcium carbonate market is likely to reach 108.5 million tons by 2015. He added that in another few years, Latin America alone is projected to reach 3.6% of compound annual growth rate (CAGR).
According to Charles Sher, NMT’s Executive Chairman, the agreement is a significant landmark for their company in using the HGCP Technology among the emerging markets of FIFA World Cup 2014 and Summer Olympics 2016. He expressed his delight to work with Prof. Chen Jianfeng, their technology collaborator and his team members from Beijing University of Chemical Technology who are pioneers in High Gravity Precipitation Technology, a major low-cost method of developing nano-scale particles. Mr. Sher appreciated the support received from International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, a major government agency to support NMT’s global products and technology.
IE Singapore’s Group Director of Technology Business, Reginald Wee, expressed his pleasure in facilitating the partnership between NMT and Lagos Brazil. He mentioned that in 2013, the worldwide market value of nanotechnology products has been estimated to hit US$30 billion. He added that there are opportunities for such collaborations in several segments since nanotechnology can be used in several industries.
HGCP Technology is scalable and is highly cost- effective. It is used in the development of several distinct chemicals and pharmaceutical additives of micron as well as nano-sizes.
