Nanopool received the 2010 Frost & Sullivan EU New Product Innovation Award for developing the novel liquid glass product in the antibacterial nanocoatings field. This product effectively serves as a secure antibacterial coating solution suitable for industrial purposes, which can be easily applied on any surface.
The criteria considered for the award include the innovativeness of the product, the influence of leading-edge technologies, advantages and special features, improvement in customer ROI and the potential to attract new customers.
The liquid glass renders powerful disinfectant properties when silicon dioxide is applied as an antimicrobial coating at nanometer dimensions. Previously, such high disinfectant properties could be achieved only with silver nanocoatings, the toxic characteristics of which, was a matter of concern. The silicon dioxide product underwent several clinical trails and was in compliance with DIN EN ISO 10993-(1-12) standards and also was fully biocompatible.
It can function well under a wide range of temperatures from -150 to +450°C, which makes it suitable for use in home appliances including air conditioners and ovens. It is extremely durable and offers surface protection for more than ten years.. The liquid glass can be applied directly and easily onto the surface either by spraying or wiping. It is possible to coat tiny items by immersing them into the liquid product.
The product can be used for a wide range of applications such as agriculture, biomedical, and aerospace. It is also useful in sectors such as automotive, building & construction, packaging and transport, production, hotel industries, and retail.
Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst, Ankit Ashokkumar Shukla, stated that the company has collaborated with food chains and supermarket to offer protection for food against microbes which, prevents food infestation.
