Synopsys, a company that supplies intellectual property and software for semiconductor design, production, and validation, declared that it has joined hands with GLOBALFOUNDRIES to design, support, test, and distribute interoperable process design kits (iPDKs) for advanced and mainstream technological process of GLOBALFOUNDRIES.
The 65 nm iPDKs from GLOBALFOUNDRIES come with other iPDKs and are expected to be delivered in 2011. The iPDKs have been completely tested using the custom design solutions from Synopsys, such as HSPICE circuit simulator, Galaxy Custom Designer tool, IC Validator physical verification tool, CustomSim circuit simulator, and StarRC extraction tool.
The VP of GLOBALFOUNDRIES, Henry Law, stated that after the release of iPDKs, it has become possible to cater to the needs of a wide market segment using advanced process technologies and to render multiple alternatives to clients in implementing innovative EDA solutions including Synopsys' Custom Designer.
The Senior VP and General Manager at Synopsys stated that iPDKs enhance designer access to newly formed process nodes, thus allowing portability and design reuse. He added that the iPDK collaboration has enabled Synopsys to include its custom design solution in GLOBALFOUNDRIES' process technology.
