Tronics, a major MEMS foundry, has declared that it has inked a deal with DelfMEMS for producing RF MEMS switches of DelfMEMS. The company has already started industrialization and will meet the high capacity demands of DelfMEMS in the fiscal year 2012.
Tronics has already finished successfully numerous important process transfer steps and will supply samples in the beginning of 2012. The company will commence mass production at the end of the fiscal year 2012. In the next few years, the annual production capacity is anticipated to surpass 20,000 wafers. With its new foundry deal with DelfMEMS as well as its five other major agreements inked in the fiscal year 2011, the company is significantly reinforcing its dominance in the United States.
DelfMEMS’ Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Olivier Millet stated that with its flexibility and expertise, Tronics reduces the risks of MEMS process transfers of the company. The company benefits from Tronics’ proven, high-capacity wafer fab that produced several millions of MEMS chips over the past several years, he said. Moreover, the company can quickly ramp to mass production of its novel RF switch technology thanks to the wafer level packaging and metal bonding expertise of Tronics, he added.
Tronics Dallas’ President, Brian Stephenson stated that besides having a significant volume potential in the mobile phone market, DelfMEMS business has market potential in other mass markets wherein its technology offers apparent benefits in terms of reliability, linearity and conductivity. Tronics’ Director of Sales and Marketing, Herve Borrel stated that the company’s MEMS foundry business in the US has become a critical part of its overall growth.
