mPhase Technologies announced that it has been strengthening its intellectual property based on a novel platform technology to fluid flow control by electronically manipulating the behavior of liquids during their contact with a porous or solid surface.
mPhase Technologies’ patent portfolio in smart surfaces comprises 11 patent applications, which include solely owned, licensed and jointly owned patents with its development partners. The portfolio covers the company’s Smart Surface Technology and mPhase Smart NanoBattery. The company is working on expanding its portfolio of patents outside of batteries.
mPhase Technologies’ future application filings will focus on the consumer and commercial areas aiming at portable electronics and medical applications. So far, the company has developed this novel technology platform with a focus on sophisticated battery applications. The mPhase Smart NanoBattery’s novel design provides a shelf life of decades, adaptability to several chemistries, programmable control and remote activation within the same container. These qualities lend themselves to novel applications beyond batteries.
mPhase Technologies is developing a pioneering Smart Surface technology facilitated by advancements in microfluidics, MEMS processing and nanotechnology. Its Smart Surface technology finds use in filtration systems, chemical and liquid sensor systems, self-cleaning systems, lab-on-a-chip analytic systems and drug delivery systems. The mPhase Smart NanoBattery is the company’s first Smart Surface enabled product. Besides the Smart Surface technology, the company recently unveiled its first product called the mPower Emergency Illuminator designed by Porsche Design Studio. The company distributes the product through its mPower website.
