Agilent Technologies Unveils Powerful Quaternary UHPLC System for Separations Science

Agilent Technologies has unveiled a quaternary UHPLC system called the Agilent 1290 Infinity Quaternary LC system. According to the company, it is the first UHPLC system that delivers a performance of a binary-pump in terms of precision and accuracy.

The Agilent 1290 Infinity Quaternary LC System

The basis of the new quaternary UHPLC system is the new Agilent 1290 Infinity Quaternary pump, which offers a flow rate of up to 10 ml/min and a pressure of up to 1200 bar. Other features of the pump include active damping with high-resolution pump drives and Agilent Technologies’ proprietary microfluidic technology in the new Jet Weaver mixer and Inlet Weaver. With this high-performance pump, the Agilent 1290 Infinity Quaternary LC system can readily be used with the company’s unique Intelligent System Emulation Technology.

The new Infinity Quaternary LC system also has Agilent Technologies’ 1290 Infinity diode-array detector to deliver superior levels of baseline strength and ultraviolet sensitivity or the company’s 1200 Infinity high-dynamic range diode-array detector to increase the linear ultraviolet range to 30 times. Spectral acquisition rate is up to 160 Hz. The advanced 1290 Infinity Thermostated Column Compartment and 1290 Infinity Autosampler are the other modules featured in the system. With these features, the system sets a new benchmark in quaternary UHPLC performance.

According to Fred Strohmeier, Agilent Technologies’ Vice President and General Manager for the Liquid Phase Analysis Division, the Agilent 1290 Infinity Quaternary LC system is the highly versatile system available. The accuracy of the novel low-pressure mixing UHPLC pump matches that of a high-pressure mixing binary pump. This solution integrates unprecedented precision and consistency with the versatility of a quaternary system, including method development capability, accurate buffer blending and gradients.
