Provider of all-programmable technology, Xilinx is using SiTime’s programmable silicon MEMS oscillators for reference timing in its 7 series Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) evaluation kits.
The SiT8102 oscillator and the SiT9102 differential oscillator serve as HDMI reference clock and system clock respectively in the Kintex-7 FPGA KC705 evaluation kit, Virtex-7 FPGA VC707 evaluation kit and Zynq-7000 dual ARM processor. The Zynq-7000 Extensible Processing Platform (EPP) also uses the single ended oscillator SiT8103 in addition to the other two. The SiT910x and SiT810x series of oscillators have frequency stability that is 25 ppm over the industrial temperature range and higher end operating frequency that is 110 to 220 MHz. They operate at various levels of output of 1.8V, 2.5V or 3.3V and thereby support a host of FPGAs without the need for level translators.
Steve Logan, marketing manager at Xilinx, stated that the flexibility offered by the MEMS oscillators from SiTime helps Xilinx adhere to their commitment of providing configurable and flexible high performance solutions to their clients. Xilinx has used SiTime’s MEMS oscillators in their previous generation evaluation kits successfully and hence now intend to extend the usage to 28 nm, 7 series evaluation kits.
SiTime has helped in the transition of the timing market pegged at a value of $6 billion to silicon based timing solutions from traditional quartz based timing solutions. The Company which has shipped over 100 million devices holds an 80% share of the timing solutions market. All devices are available with a lead time of 3 to 5 weeks since their devices are all in production.
