UK Graphene Manufacturer Thomas Swan Announces Start-Up of New Graphene Production Line

Today, Thomas Swan announced the start-up of its new integrated pilot line for the manufacture of Elicarb® Graphene products.

The plant is capable of producing 1kg/day of high quality, few-layer graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) by liquid exfoliation of graphite raw materials. The plant will provide a reliable supply of prototyping materials and further support the development of graphene based applications with Thomas Swan’s customers.

“This is an exciting time for our business as interest in R&D quantities of Elicarb® Graphene products has been high. We now have the ability to provide kg quantities and work more closely with our customers on development of graphene technologies. The pilot line also gives us the opportunity to optimise our unit operations for our next scale-up step which we are already planning.”

Andy Goodwin, Commercial Director – Advanced Materials Division

“I am delighted with the progress made by our process technology team to deliver this pilot plant. It has been a very successful project for our R&D team, contractors and site services, and positions Thomas Swan as a leading graphene supplier.”

Harry Swan, Managing Director

Elicarb® Graphene products are manufactured by a proprietary liquid exfoliation process which was developed in collaboration with Trinity College Dublin, Ireland and produces high conductivity, few layer graphene nanoplatelets with average X-Y dimensions of 1 micron.

Currently two products are available - Elicarb® Graphene Powder and Elicarb® Graphene Dispersions (AQ) - and additional product lines will be available in 2015.

Thomas Swan welcomes enquiries on individual customer applications. Customers requiring kg quantities of Elicarb® Graphene products should contact the company directly at [email protected]

Further details of Elicarb® Graphene products are available at the Thomas Swan website.
