AIXTRON AG today announced it had received an order for two further AIX 2600G3HT Gallium Nitride (GaN) MOCVD systems from Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co., Ltd. (SEMCO) during January 2007.
Both MOCVD tools will be delivered to SEMCO’s facilities in Kyungki-Do, South Korea, and will be used for volume production of high brightness blue and white GaN-based LEDs.
The systems of this repeat order from Samsung Electro-Mechanics will be added to Samsung’s large installed base of AIXTRON Group systems. Their Nitride Planetary Reactors have been performing very satisfactorily but with market demand so high additional reactors are now needed. Because the processes are readily transferable SEMCO anticipates that the new tools will be quickly ramped up to meet production needs.
Dr. Dong-Joon Kim of SEMCO, responsible for both systems said: “Samsung has become the number one local supplier for GaN based HB-LEDs in Korea. Only recently we have expanded our capacity with AIXTRON Planetary Reactor systems. Now we decided to order two additional AIXTRON MOCVD systems. To upgrade our production we require a professional service and reliable system. This is why we chose AIXTRON. In our experience, the AIXTRON Planetary Reactor offers excellent reproducibility which can be quickly and easily transferred to further AIXTRON systems enabling us to ramp up output promptly after system installation."
