Bayer and Brenntag Form Carbon Nanotube Distribution Agreement

Bayer MaterialScience AG has entered a distribution agreement for its carbon nanotubes, BayTubesR, with Brenntag Schweizerhall AG. BMS is a world-leading manufacturer of carbon nanotubes (CNT) and is seeking strategic cooperation partners to foster the development of industrial applications.

"For us it was crucial that Brenntag Schweizerhall AG possesses a strong position in the Swiss markets that are important for Bayer MaterialScience,"
declared Martin Schmid, head of the global BayTubesR business at Bayer MaterialScience, at the signing of the agreement.

"Adding BayTubesR, the carbon nanotubes of Bayer MaterialScience AG, to our product portfolio is an important element of our future strategic orientation in the field of specialty chemicals," says graduate engineer Ulf De la Vigne, head of Business Development at Brenntag Schweizerhall AG.
He adds, "It is our goal to expand our core business and generate significant growth with high-tech products, especially in the field of nanotechnology, and build a long-term know-how for us in this area. When Brenntag Schweizerhall AG selects its strategic partners and products, a number of factors come into play. In addition to the economical and technological side, the central aspect is product philosophy - customer benefit, applicability, and environmental compatibility. BayTubesR from Bayer MaterialScience fulfill these requirements perfectly."

The distribution cooperation also includes the global marketing of carbon nanotubes through key accounts of Brenntag Schweizerhall AG worldwide.

Bayer MaterialScience currently has a production capacity of 60 metric tons BayTubesR at the manufacturing site of H. C. Starck GmbH in Laufenburg in Germany's southern Baden region. In the medium to long term, Bayer MaterialScience plans to erect a large-scale production facility in Germany with an annual capacity of 3,000 metric tons.
