Researchers Develop Novel Way to Waterproof Materials by Adding Exterior Surface Grooves

Researchers from Kyoto University in Japan have developed a novel way to waterproof new functionalized materials involved in gas storage and separation by adding exterior surface grooves. Their study, published in the journal Angewandte Chemie, provides a blueprint for researchers to build similar materials involved in industrial applications, such as high performance gas separation and energy storage.

The newly merged SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) / SUNY Institute of Technology (SUNYIT) Smart System Technology and Commercialization Center (STC), based in Canandaigua, in collaboration with Nazareth College and the City of Rochester’s Bureau of Recreation, today announced that a series of hands-on, nanotechnology–based educational opportunities for children will be offered at the Carter Street Recreation Center this summer.

Five Nikon Metrology SEMs will Attract Hundreds More Students at the First Teaching Laboratory in Denmark with Scanning Electron Microscopes

Staff and students at schools and universities throughout Denmark are excited about a new facility housing multiple scanning electron microscopes that has opened within Nanoteket, a nanotechnology teaching laboratory at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), near Copenhagen. The laboratory operates in collaboration with the university’s physics department and centre for electron nanoscopy. The latest project has been funded by three private foundations - Villum Fonden (the main sponsor), Otto Mønsteds Fond, and Marie & M. B. Richters Fond.

FIRST Center to Receive $15.2 Million for Study of Nanoscale Environment at Fluid-Solid Interfaces

Oak Ridge National Laboratory will be home to two Energy Frontier Research Centers (EFRCs) announced this week by U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz. The Department of Energy awarded a total of $100 million to 32 EFRC projects to accelerate the scientific breakthroughs needed to build the 21st-century energy economy.
