Distinguished Professor Gwo-Bin Lee from Department of Engineering Science of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) will be honored with the 2009 Distinguished Engineer Award from the Chinese Institute of Engineers (CIE), and awarded with the certificate and medal in the convocation ceremony and CIE annual meeting on June 6th.
Professor Lee’s research interests mainly apply to microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), micro sensors, micro actuators, microfluidics, microptics, nanobiotechnology, DNA manipulation and biosensing.
Professor Lee’s achievement on science and education can be appreciated on many awards he has received, including the 2008 National Innovation Award, the 2006 Outstanding Research Award by National Science Council, Distinguished Young Electrical Engineer Award from Chinese Electrical Engineering Society, Distinguished Mechanical Engineer Award named by the Chinese Society of Mechanical Engineers, the 45th National Youth Award, K.T. Lee Research Award and many best paper awards in many world-renowned international conferences.
Professor Lee has been appointed as an Associate Editor for IEEE Proceedings of Nanobiotechnology and Chair for the Technical Committee on Nanosensors and Nanoactuators under the IEEE Nanotechnology Council. Ever Since 1999, he has authored about 415 academic papers, and has been granted with 41 patents. Four of his recent papers have been selected as “Highly cited papers in 10 years” by Essential Science Indicators, ISI database.
Not only in researches, has Professor Lee also been enthusiastic at school administration. He served as the deputy director of NCKU Micro Bio-analysis Center and the deputy director for technology transfer in Center for Micro/Nano Science Technology. Now, he has served as the deputy director for Medical Electronics and Device Technology Center in Industrial Technology Research Institute.
Professor Lee started his academic career at NCKU after he received his PhD in mechanical and aerospace engineering from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He earned his BSc and MSc degrees both in mechanical engineering from National Taiwan University.
