Rainbow Solar Inc. (RSi), the innovative clean energy company that introduced the world's first transparent PV window announces the SuperPV: a breakthrough technology that increases the power generation of silicon solar cells by 60 - 200%.
This extraordinary gain in power output has been confirmed by Osaka University's Center for Advanced Science and Innovation (CASI). "To the best of my knowledge," reported Dr. Shozo Yanagida - Japan's leading photovoltaic scientist, "the SuperPV is the only technology to have produced such results."
As we approach the physical limits of silicon-based photovoltaic (PV) technology, even a 3% output gain has become extremely difficult to achieve. ThinFilm PV is even less efficient. The 60%+ power-generation increase made possible by the SuperPV is nothing short of revolutionary, "a milestone in solar technology".
Under low-light conditions, SuperPV modules consistently generate a much more constant electrical output regardless of sunlight fluctuation and drop-offs than identical modules not equipped with the SuperPV. During peak sun periods, the SuperPV consistently generated power above sunlight levels.
California Summary days can stop power-generation on conventional solar panels caused by over-heating. CASI observed a phenomenon that SuperPV cause a 'cooling-effect' on the module, where the SuperPV recorded "astonishing" results of more than 200% power-output gain under strong sunlight conditions.
"Given its substantial benefits and broad compatibility, I expect that the SuperPV will become an integral component of all future photovoltaic modules," predicts Professor Yanagida.
The implications of the SuperPV are enormous for the entire energy industry, beyond grid-tied applications: the SuperPV-BIPV can lead to self-powered buildings with utility class of solar energy, introduced at the ICSC Recon event in Las Vegas on May 18, 2009.
"Speaking also, as a special guest in both presentations...RSi Solar gave a stunning overview related to Solar Windows and SuperPV breakthrough technology. Representative of the accelerating advances in the Solar Industry, Pierce presented some compelling statistics demonstrating what could only be considered as a quantum leap in solar efficiency and overall viability." - Timothy Boe, AIA (www.eco-tects.com)
