TSMC Selects Lorentz’s Peakview EM Tool to Address Nanometer Design Procedures

Lorentz Solution, Inc. today announced that its flagship product, Peakview, had been included in RF Reference Design Kit 2.0 of TSMC. Part of the RF RDK 2.0 contained a critical voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) based on standard 65nm TSMC’s Process Design Kit (PDK) devices with proven design flow using industry standard parasitic extraction and physical verification tools.

The process of completing the TSMC’s design procedures using Peakview’s electromagnetic (EM) synthesis-based devices demonstrated the accuracy and added advantages for RF/high-speed integrated circuit (IC) designers to adopt EM tools earlier in their design flow.

Foundry’s PDK typically provides a set of parameterized passive devices for IC designers. In nanometer RF/high-speed designs, these parameterized cell-based (P-cell) passive devices in the libraries might be limited to satisfy today’s high-performance design requirements either in die size or timing constraints. Peakview provides IC designers the flexibility to choose specific target device with optimal layout using either the synthesis-based Pcircuit libraries or from custom hand-drawn devices utilizing Peakview’s LEM (Layout EM) analysis capabilities. Several mutual customers of Lorentz Solution have successfully used Peakview to compliment foundry’s P-cell based PDK. The RF RDK 2.0 demonstrates that incorporating Peakview into RF/High Speed Design flow working in tandem with mainstream LVS/DRC and Parasitic Extraction tools can improve design quality and reduce design cost.

Jinsong Zhao, Founder and President of Lorentz Solution, says, “Integrating Peakview into TSMC RF RDK 2.0 further demonstrates the deep commitment from Lorentz in supporting TSMC’s nanometer RF/high-speed analog customers. We will continue to work with TSMC and their customers in advancing EM solutions for nanometer designs.”

“The RF RDK 2.0 targets our 65nm process technology customers with proven design flow to accelerate RF designs and RF system-on-chip (SOC) verification and integration,” said Tom Quan, Deputy Director, Design Methodology and Service Marketing at TSMC. “We welcome ecosystem partners like Lorentz Solution, Inc. in enhancing the features and capabilities of the RDK to address MS/RF design challenges.”
