The Center of Innovation for Nanobiotechnology (COIN) today announced their second Executive Roundtable event to be hosted at the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering in Greensboro, NC, on November 17, 2010. These events offer executives and entrepreneurs of North Carolina-based nanobiotechnology companies and others involved in this exciting field an opportunity to discuss key business issues and build relationships.
COIN is a non-profit that promotes commercialization of nanobiotechnology in North Carolina and beyond. The opportunity represented by the myriad applications of nanobiotechnology in key life science and medical product sectors for the state is significant. COIN's programs and services are designed to help accelerate innovation management and new product development and commercialization.
The Nanobio Executive Roundtable event will be held at The Joint School for Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN) November 17, 2010 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. JSNN is located at Gateway University Research Park South Campus in the USDA Building adjacent to the construction site of the new JSNN building. Registration opens at 5:15 p.m. There will be two keynote speakers: Jim Ryan, Dean of JSNN, and Dr. Michele Ostraat, Senior Director for the Center for Aerosol and Nanomaterials Engineering at RTI International.
Dean Ryan will talk about JSNN facilities, academic offerings, and opportunities for collaboration with industry including nanotech companies and startups. Ryan, a professor and researcher with 47 U.S. patents, became the founding dean of the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN) in July 2008. JSNN is a collaborative project of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
Dr. Ostraat, Senior Director, RTI International, will talk about a project she is leading to establish a Nanomaterial Registry. The registry, which is federally funded, is being designed to facilitate data validation and data quality improvement for nanomaterials; enhance the development of new models, assays, standards, and manufacturing methods; and accelerate the translation of new nanomaterials for biomedical and environmental applications. RTI will work with industry groups, standards organizations and government agencies to develop and validate the registry.
Attendees will also enjoy a gala networking reception that is intended to help facilitate connections that lead to collaborations and new business relationships.
