The Center of Innovation for Nanobiotechnology (COIN) will host post-conference delegation tours for registered COMS (Commercialization of Micro-Nano Systems conference) international attendees on September 1, 2011. These tours will showcase some of North Carolina's finest technology-related talent, companies, institutions and programs.
COIN is a non-profit organization that promotes commercialization of emerging technologies at the intersection of advanced materials and life sciences. COIN helped bring COMS to North Carolina to bring attention to the strong cluster of advanced nanotechnology and microelectronics technology this state has to offer. COMS will focus primarily on commercialization solutions emerging micro- and nanotechnologies, not just science and technology. The COMS conference will provide the latest information on technology transfer, manufacturing processes, facilities and infrastructure, investment, applications and markets, as well as covering regulatory issues, social implications, education and workforce development.
These tours augment the conference sessions. Three separate tour destinations are offered to cover different regions of the state. The first option is Raleigh-Durham which will start with a tour of CEINT (The Center for the Environmental Implications of Nanotechnology) at Duke University, with lunch and presentations at RTI (Research Triangle Institute) in Research Triangle Park, and then networking with area companies at a film event featuring "The Real Revolutionaries" at the American Tobacco Campus in downtown Durham.
Another tour option is in the Piedmont Triad area beginning with a tour of Wake Forest University's Center for Nanotechnology and Molecular Materials, followed by presentations and tours at JSNN (Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering).
Lastly, there is a tour and company presentations at the Center for Precision Metrology at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte and Nanoscale Science Degree Program.
These tours are free to COMS registrants. Please email [email protected] to reserve your spot today. Tour attendees must register prior to the tour. There will be airport transportation following each tour with drop-off by 5pm. Tours are not limited to their scheduled transportation.
