STMicroelectronics, a provider of micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) for mobile and consumer applications, has introduced an advanced iNEMO MEMS inertial sensor module called the LSM330DLC that features three-axis sensing of angular and linear motion in a package of 4 x 5 x 1 mm.
The latest multi-sensor module from STMicroelectronics, LSM330DLC is half the size of existing modules and has exceptional stability and sensing accuracy. It can be used for free-fall detection and power saving portable consumer electronics, map-matching and dead-reckoning in personal navigation systems and motion-activated user interfaces in tablets and mobile phones.
STMicroelectronics’ iNEMO inertial module is completely software-compatible with its new-generation three-axis digital gyroscopes (L3GD20) and accelerometers (LIS3DH). The six-degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) module allows customers to utilize the company’s single-function sensors to enhance their designs and obtain package-level integration advantages such as size reduction and dependability.
The LSM330DLC offers naturally accurate alignment of reference axes of two sensors and its mechanical sensing structure’s advanced design assures exceptional mechanical and thermal stability. It features a user-selectable complete-scale acceleration scale ranging between 2 and 16 kg and angular-rate detection between 250 and 2500 dps along yaw, roll and pitch axes.
The multi-sensor module features sleep and power-down modes along with an integrated first-in first-out memory block for better power management in order to tackle power issues in battery-operated portable devices. Moreover, it can function with any supply voltage ranging from 2.4 to 3.6 V. It has multiple-axis single-package devices to offer superior motion-sensing features and user experience in gaming controls, mobile phones and other consumer electronics.
