Integrated Device Technology (IDT) has unveiled first-of-its-kind CrystalFree piezoelectric MEMS (pMEMS) LVDS / LVPECL oscillators for use in superior-performance industrial, cloud, consumer, and communication applications.
The IDT 4M high-performance series are a suitable substitute to conventional six-pin crystal oscillators (XOs) as they operate with a phase jitter of below 1 ps in compact industry-norm packaging.
With IDT’s proprietary CrystalFree pMEMS resonator technology, the new oscillators eliminate the necessity to adjust expensive crystals and facilitate the designated output frequency to be factory-programmed rapidly. Moreover, 4M oscillators can reach higher frequencies but at a lower cost and without comprising crucial performance because pMEMS’ nominal resonator frequency is much better than that of a quartz crystal.
The 4M series is IDT’s first MEMS-based device line that provides simple, low-jitter, accurate timing references to customers. The IDT 4M oscillators work with a frequency accuracy of ±50 ppm over a broad temperature range of between −40°C and +85°C. These oscillators work with low-voltage positive emitter-coupled logic and low-voltage differential signaling at frequencies as high as 625 MHz, thus fulfilling the rigorous specifications of most high-performance networking, communications, and computing applications.
Besides offered in 7.0 x 5.0 mm (7050) sizes, the new pMEMS oscillators are also offered in compact 5.0 x 3.2 mm (5032) regular plastic packages in order to lower cost and reduce the footprint of the application in tightly packed enclosures. They are designed to be pin-to-pin compatible with conventional XOs, making them a suitable upgraded alternative solution.
