Knowles Electronics, a provider of micro acoustics and MEMS microphone technology, has surpassed the 3 billion SiSonic MEMS microphone shipment mark, a key milestone achieved by the company representing the ever-increasing demand for MEMS microphones in the market for consumer electronics and mobile devices.
Knowles Electronics had achieved the one billion MEMS microphone shipment mark in August 2009. The company had shipped its two billionth MEMS microphone in May 2011, and has now exceeded the three billion mark within one year. Besides being the largest MEMS microphone supplier in the world, Knowles Electronics is the second largest MEMS supplier for consumer and mobile devices, as per the Top10 MEMS Suppliers of Consumer and Mobile MEMS ranking of IHS iSuppli Research.
According to Yole Développement’s Top 30 Worldwide MEMS Companies annual ranking, Knowles Electronics is the fifth largest MEMS supplier in the world in 2011. The company’s MEMS microphone business has witnessed strong growth due to increasing demand for MEMS microphones. To meet this demand, the company recently increased the capacity of its facility located in Penang, Malaysia, for SiSonic MEMS microphone production. The 187,000-square-foot facility is the company’s second SiSonic plant capable of manufacturing more than millions of units in a single day. The company runs a plant in Suzhou, China, for the exclusive production of SiSonic MEMS microphones.
Knowles Electronics supplies wide range of products in the markets for professional audio, consumer electronics, mobile communications, and hearing health.
