Nanotech Security Completes First Large Scale Roll-to-Roll Production Test-Run

Nanotech Security has announced the conclusion of its first large scale test-run utilizing its optical security feature based on nanotechnology called NOtES.

Nanotech Security contracted an independent third party, which is a major provider of optical products, to carry out the production test-run in which images were imprinted onto a 300-meter transparent plastic film. A continuous roll-to-roll basis was used to run the roughly 27-cm-width film all along the entire length. The film consisted of 8 columns of optical images arranged in rows of which some images were continuous while others were parted by 0.5 cm spacing.

Around 23 individual and easily visible nanotechnology-based optical images were imprinted on every 27 cm2 of the plastic substrate. Two of the 8 columns had single continuous images over the entire length, thus illustrating standard requirements for use in potential bank note applications.

The production run demonstrates that Nanotech Security’s master shims and origination process utilized in third parties’ embossing equipment accurately transferred continuous and individual images over the film on a commercial scale run. This technology enables the last 10 m to perform as robustly as the first 10 m, thus making it suitable for the high-volume, high-speed setting.

Nanotech Security’s Chairman and CEO, Doug Blakeway stated that the company is happy with the test results that corroborated the technical viability of utilizing its patent-pending, cutting-edge nano-hole optical technology for a large scale commercial application. After setting up the production run, more than 150,000 individual clearly visible iridescent optical images were embossed on the plastic film in a matter of minutes.
