NanoSteel Receives R+D 100 Award for Nano-Structured Steel Design

NanoSteel, the provider of nano-structured steel designs, has bagged the R&D 100 Award for the development of a new nano-structured powder metal alloy for use in large-scale manufacture of industrial components. This award is the fifth such R&D award for NanoSteel. Dubbed as the “Oscars of Innovation”, The R&D 100 Awards is into its 50th year of recognizing and honoring the most technologically noteworthy products developed and launched in a given year.

NanoSteel’s latest innovation offers a new category of steels comprising nanostructures that can be used to build components by employing a process called hot isostatic pressing or HIPing. The nanostructures impart elongation properties in combination with high tensile strength and offer high resistance to corrosion and wear and tear.

Dr. Daniel Branagan, Chief Technical Officer and Founder of NanoSteel, stated that previous attempts to employ nanostructures to design near net shaped steel by altering mechanical properties failed owing to thickness and size. He said that the mechanisms and patented chemistries that form the base of their recent research breakthroughs facilitated the development of steel that could be produced on a large scale with nanostructures weighing several thousand pounds.

The new offering from NanoSteel could serve critical applications in oil and gas and power generation industries owing to its dependability under high stress conditions.
