Nanochemical Center of Peking University Signs Research Collaboration with NANOTEC Thailand

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on April 7, 2013 witnessed the signing ceremony on nanotechnology collaboration between the National Nanotechnology Center (or NANOTEC) of the National Science and Technology Development Agency of Thailand and the Nanochemical Center of Peking University.

The signing ceremony took place during Her Royal Highness’s current visit to the People’s Republic of China from April 6-11. Signing the agreement were Mr Sirirurg Songsivilai, executive director of NANOTEC and Professor Liu Zhongfan, director of the Center for Nanochemistry, Peking University.

The collaboration follows an initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn who wishes to see an extension of relationship between Chulalongkorn University of Thailand and Peking University of China. The two universities have already been cooperating in constant exchanges of students and varsity personnel and in taking turns hosting academic seminars every three years. In response to the royal initiative, Peking University suggested the establishment of nanotechnology research centers in both countries to celebrate the 60th birthday anniversary of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in 2015. Under this project, two Sirindhorn nanotechnology research centers will be set up, one at Chulalongkorn University and the other at Peking University.

The centers will focus on nanotechnology researches in energy, health, environment, electronics and education. Students completing courses either in Bangkok or Beijing will be awarded degrees by both universities. Besides, a Sirindhorn fellowship will be established to attract greater interest from students to take course in this field.
