Applied Micro Circuits Corporation today announced the sampling of its 28-nanometer HeliXTM 2 embedded processor system-on-a-chip products. Launched in October 2014, AppliedMicro's HeliX™ family represents the first commercially available embedded processor SoCs based on the ARMv8-A 64-bit architecture.
HeliX 2's class-defining multicore 64-bit ARM®-based CPUs offer customers a substantial improvement over previous MIPS- and PowerPC-based embedded solutions. Energy Star compliant, 28nm HeliX 2 solutions range from two-core, 1.2 GHz SoCs supporting fanless systems, to four-core, 2.0 GHz SoCs driving enterprise-class networking and control plane applications.
Like HeliX, HeliX 2 supports 10Gb Ethernet, enterprise-class reliability, availability and serviceability, hardware virtualization, high performance cryptographic and RAID offloads, and robust I/O including USB 3.0, PCIe Gen3 and SATA.
"Our HeliX family of embedded products is at the forefront of a major inflection point as customer demand for performance per watt with ample connectivity accelerates the transition to ARM 64-bit architecture," said Paramesh Gopi, AppliedMicro CEO. "With HeliX in production and HeliX 2 sampling to major OEMs, we have achieved an important milestone toward revitalizing our base business with new products based on ARM 64-bit architecture."
Developer kits are available later this quarter. Visit our booth at Embedded World Conference 2015, Nuremberg, Germany, Feb. 24 – 26, 2015.
