NanoOpto Corporation, which is applying novel design methods and proprietary nano-fabrication technology to produce a broad range of unique optical components that enable higher quality, low-cost optical components and systems, and Sumitomo Metal Mining (SMM), of Japan, the world-wide leader in optical isolators and related components for fiber optic network applications, announce that their joint-development partnership has resulted in first product shipments to SMM’s customers.
The teaming of NanoOpto and Sumitomo Metal Mining and their collaboration on the development of new, integrated telecommunications components, primarily packaged Optical Isolators and custom WDM filters, will enable smaller, more highly integrated solutions at very competitive price points not feasible through traditional technologies. This relationship, which is already bringing advantages to customers, enhances both companies’ abilities to address optical networking component providers’ increasing demand for hardware. These new components enable Triple-Play (voice, data, and video) services through fiber infrastructure and end user premise equipment.
“SMM’s Communications Components business is a very synergistic partnership with NanoOpto,” said Barry Weinbaum, President and CEO of NanoOpto Corporation. “SMM’s market-leading position gives them keen insight into the direction of the end user. We are excited to make the announcement of our close working relationship, and we are now shipping Optical Isolator products to customers. We are collaborating on new products which will give SMM and their customers a real competitive advantage.”
Products resulting from the SMM and NanoOpto relationship will be generally available during 2007.
