COIN Receives Grant to Host Series of NanoBio Roundtables

The Center of Innovation for Nanobiotechnology (COIN) today announced it has received a Biotechnology Event Sponsorship grant from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center that will support a series of NanoBio Executive Roundtable events across North Carolina. These events will attract business executives, technology scouts, researchers, product developers, and others active in the nanobiotechnology field and will promote growth and increased interconnectivity in the North Carolina nanobiotechnology community.

COIN is a non-profit that promotes commercialization of nanobiotechnology in North Carolina and beyond. The opportunity represented by the myriad applications of nanobiotechnology in key life science and medical product sectors for the state is significant. COIN's programs and services are designed to help accelerate innovation management and new product development.

The roundtables are organized forums which offer executives and entrepreneurs of North Carolina-based nanobiotechnology companies an opportunity to discuss key business issues and build relationships. These events will be hosted on a quarterly basis throughout the calendar year and at locations around the state. Each forum will contain a short presentation by a CEO or thought leader on a topic relevant to the business needs and opportunities for nanobiotechnology companies. The Roundtable series represents a valuable networking opportunity for those involved in advancing nanobiotechnology innovations to market. "Innovation is a ‘contact sport’ that takes place at the intersection of scientific disciplines and commercial sectors. As such, the Executive Roundtables that COIN is hosting are exactly the type of event needed to spur innovation in nanobio across North Carolina. Years from now I expect we will be able to point to several nanobio products and companies that got their start at these roundtables" commented John Hardin, Executive Director, Office of Science and Technology, North Carolina Department of Commerce.

The first event will be held September 22, 2010 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Research Triangle Park Headquarters, 12 Davis Drive, Research Triangle Park, NC. Brooks Adams, Executive Director and President of COIN, will speak about “Accelerating Commercialization of Nanobiotechnology” offering a perspective on the nanobiotechnology ecosystem and opportunity in North Carolina and a brief overview of COIN’s programs. Senior management from many of the local nanobiotechnology companies will also talk briefly about partnering opportunities and areas of need. The law firm McDonnell, Boehnen, Hulbert and Berghoff, LLP is the generous corporate sponsor of this first event. To register for this free event, please contact Clare Valcore at [email protected].
