MarketResearch.com has announced the addition of Future Markets, Inc.'s new report "The World Market for Nanostructured Coatings" to their collection of Chemicals market reports. For more information, visit http://www.marketresearch.com/product/display.asp?ProductID=2750631
The market for nanostructured coatings was valued at $980 million in 2009. Main markets for nanostructured coatings in 2009 are in construction and exterior protection (mainly in anti-weathering coatings), military and defense (anti-corrosion coatings for military vehicles and protective textiles for soldiers), household care (easy clean and anti-microbial coatings for household surfaces applied as pre-coats or after treatment sprays) and automotive (anti-corrosion, thermal barrier and hydrophobic coatings). Revenues in the household care sectors were approximately US$145million.
According to Future Markets, most multi-nationals with products related to surfaces (especially household care, paint, varnish and lacquer companies) are heavily involved in R&D in the area. Household care brand owners, such as Clorox, Procter and Gamble, Unilever and Reckitt Benckiser are actively seeking to develop products based on nanoscale surface modification. However the main thrust for innovative applications is provided by SMEs such as Nanopool, Alexium and Sarastro; all of whom have been subject of proposed buy-outs by multi-nationals. Product development currently takes the form of Small-to-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) developing their own in-house products and selling directly or via distributors; licensing agreements between SMEs and multi-national brand owners; or technology buy-outs by multinationals.
Main current regional markets are in Asia and North America where sanitary and other protection applications are widespread. Germany is the most significant European market and is home to a number of prominent nanostructured coatings product developers, according to the report.
