Hüper Optik® – inventor of the world’s first multi-layered patented nano-ceramic window films was recently featured in the August/September 2010 issue of Asia Pacific Coatings Journal (APCJ) - a leading journal for the coatings industry in Asia, the Pacific Rim and China, and the November 2010 issue of the Polymers Paint Colour Journal (PPCJ) – a leading journal for the coatings Industry in Europe and Middle East.
Titled ‘Cool Coatings’ in APCJ and ‘Advanced Nano-Ceramic Smart Coatings’ in the PPCJ, the heritage and unique technology of Hüper Optik® advanced nano-ceramic coatings was deliberated - “The sophistication of coating technologies today has allowed the development of smart coatings, with various functions, to enhance the performance of automotive glass. By utilizing advanced sputtering techniques, ultra-thin layers of titanium nitride in the nanometer range of thickness can be coated on to polyester substrates to impart desirable attributes to the glass, such as the filtering of solar heat and excessive glare, while maintaining a low visible glare.”
The article traced the early development of this advanced nano-ceramic coatings with its R&D roots stemming from the tri-partite research team between Hüper Optik® founding company, Germany’s renowned Fraunhofer Institute for Electron Beam and Plasma Technology (FEP), and Singapore research institute of Productivity and Standards Board (PSB).
Six years of extensive research resulted in the commercialization of this patented, multi-layer titanium nitride smart coating. Mentioned in the article, “Nano-ceramic coatings are called smart coatings because they possess multiple functionalities. The heat rejection performance is superior, the visible reflection is low and the ceramic nature of the coatings means that the product is highly durable and capable of operating in corrosive environments.”
In a Climate Control Temperature Test, Hüper Optik® Ceramic 70 and Ceramic 15 combination kept the front and rear of the car about 22% and 15% cooler compared to if no film was installed.
Hüper Optik® was granted US patents for dual titanium nitride layers for solar control in February 2001.
