San Jose, California-based Tessera Technologies has created a group to develop, procure and fund use of semiconductor technologies beyond packaging. The group will be headed by Simon McElrea and will develop an initial catalog of 280 patents and applications.
The group will employ about 40 existing staff members in San Jose. The group will concentrate on circuitry design, memory modules, three-dimensional design, and superior interconnect technologies.
Henry R. Nothhaft, chairman and chief executive officer, Tessera, says the company’s Imaging & Optics business has been successfully launched. President of the new independent entity, Bob Roohparvar, will accelerate the growth of the company and serve the customers as a stand-alone entity.
Tessera has not set a time frame, within which to complete initial surveys of alternatives to the Imaging & Optics division and these surveys cannot be relied on to end in a transaction.
