Senodia Technologies and X-FAB Silicon Foundries Group declared that they have completed development and have commenced bulk manufacturing of microelectromechanical system (MEMS) gyroscopes for consumer applications.
Pure-play MEMS foundry X-FAB, with its open platform inertial sensor technology, will be the front-end production partner. Senodia will manufacture 1-axis and 3-axis gyroscopes using the sensor devices produced by X-FAB, which provides a variety of eligible open platform MEMS process techniques with extensive design support. The company, which offers the MEMS foundry service for over a decade, believes that inertial MEMS is the basis for its MEMS growth.
Commercial MEMS supplier Senodia is the first in China to develop and package gyroscopes. The company increased its monthly manufacturing capacity to over 2.5 million MEMS gyroscope chips.
Single-axis MEMS gyroscopes can determine motion on one axis of rotation either roll, pitch or yaw but more intricate 3-axis gyroscopes can determine mobility in all three axis of rotations. These gyroscopes are suitable for numerous mass production applications, including medical devices, automotive, electronic toys, digital cameras, remote controls, gaming controllers, camcorders, tablet PCs and mobile phones.
The Chief Executive Officer at X-FAB, Rudi De Winter stated that the company is happy to partner with Senodia, as it has converted the inertial MEMS technology platform into a gyroscope application as per the market requirements in record time. The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Senodia, Bo Zou stated that the open platform inertial sensor process technology of X-FAB is readily available and a turnkey solution for realizing Senodia’s designs. X-FAB’s superior-performance process technology allows the company to manufacture gyro products quickly and economically, he added.
